Building Your Own City - Community Helpers Extended Lesson Idea

If you built your own mega city, what would you include? What would you name it?

Educators can incorporate the Community Paper City into lessons to introduce topics such as community helpers and the components that make up a thriving community. This interactive learning experience engages children in an educational, playful manner making lessons more exciting. How cool is it to be able to build your own city!

The Community Paper City encourages teamwork when constructing the city with friends or family, enhances fine motor skills while cutting and assembling the pieces, and cultivates storytelling abilities as children invent narratives within their bustling paper metropolis.

Community Paper City includes:

  • Buildings: barn, airport, school, police station, fire station, houses, market, post office, bakery, pet clinic, electric station for charging vehicles, pharmacy, hospital

  • Vehicles: various land, air, and water vehicles

  • Puppets: farmer, mail carrier, police officer, teacher, astronaut, vet, firefighter, pilot, captain, baker, doctor, nurse, dentist, and pets

  • Miscellaneous: various street signs and trees

Freddy did this project with his Kindergartners and they loved it! The students built the city in small groups. He gave the printed sheets to each group. The kids decided amongst themselves who colored which parts. It was really spectacular to see the kids working so collaboratively together. Afterwards, the kids named their city and presented it to the class.
